My first nude
and some value studies that I'm rather proud of.
(a promise to the rose boys)
Especially the head of the old man and the woman who is blinded by the scarf.
Not really as proud of the nude... I liked it when it was more elemental. I hope we get some variety with these nude models. Seriously. haha but it's so weird cause there's this naked woman there all chill and you don't know if you should say anything to her. But I'm liking it down here. My teachers are great and I've learned so much in already two weeks.

It's really early and I PROMISE I'm going to post the countour line drawings that I did in class the other day on here because I think the composition of one or two of the items are really good. We also learned about certain techniques we could use to warm up our hands. i never knew this until know. I'm really happy here at SCAD.
But the main reason why I wanted to post this was because, here at SCAD they have a television studio and the fantasy story about fairy tales being true got picked up as their new show. I just have to write three basic storylines for the first three episodes... can be as long as an hour... so INCREDIBLY excited so I rushed back to the dorm and madly typed away.
(BILL if you want to get in on this bud, now is the time)
Here's the characters and their descriptions so far

(Major characters)
Thomas G. Wilheim- Caucasian m. 20s early 30s- He was adopted into the Walker family at an early age of three or four. Long dark brown hair. Thomas also has long sideburns and a goutee and wears very distinct glasses. To us Thomas looks as if he’s completely out of place but if he were born only two hundred years earlier he’d fit right in. He wanders around in a long trench coat. His clothes have a very british style. Thomas’s only real friend growing up was his step grandmother who started the boy on his now impressive collection of old fairy tale books. Thomas is frowned upon in society

Katherine Walker- Caucasian f. 14-16 a troubled girl, her parents are going through a vicious divorce. She has few friends in school and even so, none of them are really that reliable. She lived with her mother, until now and is sent to go live for the summer with her Uncle Tom until the settlement is over. She’s never met him before. Enjoys a good story.

Jelly-an enormous lovable dog. Thomas is asked by his owners to watch the dog while they’re away on vacation. They never come back and their house is quickly sold. Thomas despises Jelly but cares for him all the same. Jelly has to be walked often.

Hobb the dwarf- m. Hobb is a small dwarf in his twenties or thirties. Beard is optional. He lives in an abandoned alleyway in Savannah, Georgia. People mistake him as a sleeping bum or as a pile of trash so it’s often people’ll throw MORE stuff on top of him. He is grungy but kind hearted and fancies old mushrooms. He is a lookout for Thomas in exchange for the mushrooms he brings as payment and is Thomas’s first encounter with a ‘magical’ creature.

Fenswick the Elf- Caucasian m. 60+ but energetic a british elf with long wiry hair and pointy ears. Fenswick was kicked out of the realm of elves for suggesting that human interaction isn’t all that bad. That was over two hundred years ago. Now Fenswick has a strong dislike for humans especially the Americans. Fenswick now believes that humans are only good for scones, tea, and their scandelly clad women. A humorous role. Society overlooks Fenswick’s odd ears as a birth defect that he usually hides with a hat. He is very intelligent in the magical societies of Savannah. Think Bill Nighy or David Morris

(Medium characters)
The Scarecrow- m a buff leader of a secret society or cult out to purify the world of anything magic related. Located in Savannah. They get a hold of fenswick and try to kill him at a ritual. Scarecrow leaves messages around Savannah in the form of dead crows in odd positions which signifies when and at what time a meeting will be held.

Angry Neighbor- Neighbor to Thomas always upset about something and often blames Thomas. Jelly often is a neusance to him. His wife makes him tend her garden out front which Jelly is usually found eating. The wife is also a collector of lawn gnomes which on occasion will get stolen.

Police Officer- by now, Thomas is a regular. He knows him and neighbors often complain about him.

Aunt Petunia-a very large woman. Snooty, dislikes her half brother Tom incredibly. Would take in Katherine if she wasn’t on the road promoting her cat food. During the school year, she takes guardianship over Katherine until the summer when once again she goes out to try and promote her disgusting cat food. She lives with twenty or thirty cats.

(Minor characters/cameos)
Mary Walker f. 30s-40s mother to Katherine Walker. We only briefly catch a glimpse of her in the beginning shipping off her daughter to Savannah. Don’t really see her again.

Crazy homeless man m.- an old guy who’s lost his marbles. Thomas humors him by allowing him to be his lookout for weird things going on in the park.

Waitor- serves Thomas on a regular basis at a small coffee shop or the Gryphon Tea Shop.

If is successful then we’ll move on with the story and introduce these characters….

(Medium characters)
Leader of vampires- distinct figure his job is to slow down and kill in necessary Thomas from finding the artifact.

Vampires- need all ethnicities they are traditional vampires under the command of the dark witch. They cannot walk in sunlight but they can change into bats.

Dougal-m. voice over role a black wolf with a long scar on his belly. Deep voice. Only Thomas and those who are of magical ancestry can hear him. So Katherine cannot. Dougal lives with the Swamp Witch and this is our first encounter with him.

Swamp Witch- f. 50+ any ethnicity More of a voodoo lady than a witch but still contains mystical powers such as forsight and the knowledge of potion making. Informs Thomas and Katherine of their quest/ task but not before branding Katherine with a symbol on her arm which can only be exposed when heat is applied. Full of knowledge but at the same time can be humorous and a little crazy/ tipsy.

Ghosts- m/f live in a large abandoned house. Rather comedic most are don’t realize that people are trying to talk to them.

Little ghost girl f- a ghost in a white dress. Leads Katherine down to the basement to drown her and have a new friend to play with.

Necuri m/f or zombies they live in the flooded basement of the old abandoned house and come alive only to drown a person to join them.

(Minor characters/cameos)
half breed vampires- need all ethnicities under the command of the dark witch, they come to Savannah as Thomas comes closer to solving the mystery of the elven flute artifact. More to track his progress during the day. Can walk in sunlight are very pale or a hint of green, but surprisingly can get around town pretty well. Yes they have the teeth. Gothic maybe looking but most just wear black. Sunglasses possibly.

Gypsies- sellers of unique items on street

Jenna f. 18-20s a wiccan girl who works in a comic shop or some other odd shop in Savannah. Friends with Thomas she creates a bag to help protect Katherine when the vampires come.

Book collector m. 40s-50s- lives in a large house. Snooty and isolated has an unfathomable amount of books. One contains a page about the elven artifact in Savannah. He will not sell it to Thomas nor let him look at the page. When Thomas comes back he finds him dead killed by the vampires and the page in the book is gone.

So I'm off to sleep GNIGHT

(the Mount DOOM bridge)
WELCOME TO SAVANNAH:
Home of ghosts, homeless people, druggies, voodoo rituals, starving artists, and just plain WEIRD people!

I've been here for a mere two days and I'm having the time of my life. No art yet, sorry. Classes start wednesday. Though as soon as I have something to post, I definately will. Until then I've been photographing my experiences so far. Here's my impressions so far.

For some reason when I started heading off to college, I had this feeling that I was heading off to Hogwarts in a way. Like Harry Potter... I know sorta silly right? yeah but once I had my HUGE trunk of entertainment, my bertie botts beans, and my trusty laptop, I was set. Then, I get a look at this place

Ellibris, or BARNES AND NOBLES COLLEGE EDITION! Definate magic feeling stepping into this building, just look at the pictures below. There were FOUR FLOORS of art supplies ranging everything from books, to entertainment, paints, paper of all different sizes and texture... sorta a nice WELCOME TO COLLEGE ART KIDS!

You're always going to see some creepy person on the side of the street, just keep walking. (some are becoming regulars and I guess I'll see em everyday) I bent today for an old guy who needed money for his brother and him to get on a bus... Fraid I won't be able to keep doing that, hope God'll understand.

I'll post more later. Right now I'm working on a new idea for a book... movie... thing.
There's a whole storyline to it, here's a quick blip
Thomas Wilheim has always believed that there is really magic in the world. Ever since he was poked in the eye at the age of seven by a 'fairy', he has dedicated his life to tracking down original manuscripts and folklore in order to solve the mystery, is there still magic in the world? We meet Thomas at his current home in Savannah (if you walk the streets you'll know why) where his step niece Karen has just joined him for the summer (her parents are getting divorced) which sets them off on the adventure of a lifetime. The first book is about Thomas meeting up with strange characters; Hobb the dwarf who lives in the alleyways; Fenswick the elf who has been banished to the world of men, and the swamp witch of Georgia (more a voodoo lady than a witch there are four that rule the known world) who sets Thomas and Karen out on a bigger and more important quest; to destroy the Dark Witch.

Dark Witch- the same evil mother who tries to kill 'Snow White', at her wedding day her feet were burned and she crawled away. She then stole away a child locking her in a tower, hoping to someday train her in the dark arts and take back all that was hers. But fate would prove differently as her long locks and isolation brought the girl into the hands of Snow White's son. Once again the dark witch is thwarted, on the way towards her escape she came across a dying wolf able of speech who has been cut in half. The wolf had tried to eat a family but an axe men severed him in two. He swears he'll serve her if she saves his life, the witch agrees. The Witch realizes the authorities will soon be after her so she escapes through her mirrors sending her body and soul to a complete other demention where no one will ever find her and she can rebuild her strength. Servants to the queen hid the mirrors around the globe along with the only weapon (5 swords of the different races that have to be wielded together into one blade.) powerful enough to destroy the witch entirely.

Thomas and Karen meet dragons, the horsemen of the forbidden forest (or a cult of headless horsemen), elves, mermaids, talking animals, gypsies... and a bunch more of odd characters on their quest. The school offers help in writing, which I hope to utilize on this project.

Cheers

Chris

Well I haven't been on here in a while to post anything new. I've been so busy lately with trying to get ready for college and the work on Youtes has been slow. But since this IS a blog for me to post my works in progress, then I should show you what I've done. This is a picture of the original black and white and the color is that of it in it's current state. Recently it was brought to my attention an easier way to do shadows, as my current style is extremely tedious and this new style would allow me to produce more of the comic faster. Three panels that I simply love is the black backdrop for the first two frames along with the blood red sky in the "over my dead rumpus" panel. I'm also proud at how straight those boxes are. If you look at www.youtes.com you'll see that most of the panel boxes that I drew were slanted and not very straight.

I've been practicing out this new form of shadowing through a birthday present for my friend Bagmi Das. You may remember seeing her character drawing earlier this month. This will hopefully end up being a miniposter which she can hang up in her room. Because the poster will be larger than an 8 1/2 by 11 I will end up using two and blend them together. It will be composited of mostly her favorite pieces of literature but as you can see from the picture it also incorperates her dance practicing and love for music.

Now this is it in an early sketch of it, and you can see the blue pencil lines... which should've disappeared, but I guess it wasn't a black and white scan. My scanner's amazing but weird. Now something that changes between the sketch and the current is Bagmi dancing. I didn't feel that the original sketch turned out very well (I didn't exactly plan it out as I had hoped)
So what I did is I scanned in a picture of her dancing and the texture was weird. So I blurred it and added a shadow (which I found out how to do through Chuck) I'm really proud of it so far and am determined to finish it before shipping off.
